Можно сказать, что артикль играет ту же роль, что окончание в русском. Если у нас при склонении слова изменяется окончание существительного, то в немецком происходит изменение артикля. В принципе, немцы не мыслят слово без артикля, и это важно понять для того, чтобы научиться говорить грамотно.
